Does Qustodio monitor WhatsApp Private Messages on a child's iPhone?

Qustodio can monitor some WhatsApp activity if your child is using an iPhone, so parents should consider alternative approaches to monitor apps like WhatsApp, such as screenshot monitoring.

If you're a parent who would like to monitor the kinds of messages your child receives and sends while using WhatsApp, you might have considered an app like Qustodio. While Qustodio can monitor some activity if your child is using an iPhone, it can't monitor private messages because WhatsApp encrypts that kind of activity. Fortunately, some alternatives to Qustodio use a different monitoring approach on iPhones or iPads, and the most reliable approach that works on any app is screenshot monitoring.

Because of privacy features on Apple iOS devices, end-to-end encryption on WhatsApp, and the specific technique Qustodio uses to monitor activity, it isn't able to monitor private messages on WhatsApp. Qustodio does not monitor an iPhone's screen like it can on Android smartphones.

The only foolproof way to monitor a kid's iPhone and all WhatsApp activity is to use a monitoring app that records the entire screen

Fortunately, monitoring apps like LivingRoom , which use screenshot-based monitoring, can capture activity from any app (including other social media apps).

Alternatives to Qustodio that can monitor WhatsApp private messages on iPhones

There are a few parental control apps, like the LivingRoom app for Families , that capture all activity on an iPhone by periodically capturing screenshots of your child's entire screen. A parent can review these screenshots to see activity.

With screenshot monitoring, you can see all activity on WhatsApp, including private messages, friend requests sent to your child, and much more.

Using this approach, parents can capture the content of private messages, friend requests, and other activity on their child's iPhone. By default, LivingRoom for Families blocks WhatsApp until the screen recording is enabled. This encourages your child or teen to use WhatsApp (and other social media appssafely each time they use it. There is also a very clear recording indicator on your child's iPhone while their screen is monitored:

Use Parent-Managed Accounts on WhatsApp to monitor some activity on your child's WhatsApp account

WhatsApp is in the process of rolling out parent-managed accounts in some regions. Parent-managed accounts allow a parent to use their own WhatsApp account to monitor some of their child's activity, although private messages and browsing activity are not available for parents.

You might consider enabling parental controls on WhatsApp if you'd like to disable features, like Meta AI, disappearing messages, or channels. Parents can also review friend requests their child receives, manage groups that their child is a part of, and control their child's privacy and availability settings.
